Zenith Stratos: The Watch Worn by Felix Baumgartner

By now you’ve probably heard of Felix Baumgartner, he’s some dude that did something on October 14, 2012, click here. If you clicked that, you’ll see Chad’s post on the event and how awesome it is/was etc but the first thing I noticed when I was watching the live feed was the word “Zenith” on the capsule. So I was kind of distracted by what kind of a watch he was wearing and the answer is the Zenith El Primero Stratos.

With his Stratos jump, Felix Baumgartner broke a few records such as the highest jump (128,100 feet or 39,045 meters) in a helium balloon, first person to go Mach speed without a vehicle (Mach 1.24 or 833.9 miles per hour), and last but not least (although this record belongs to the watch), he wore a watch that traveled at 833.9 mph. This jump makes the Zenith El Primero Stratos the first watch to break Mach speed without the use of an engine.

Romain Jerome Art-DNA Watch

Swiss watchmaker Romain Jerome adds another funky watch to their “DNA” line of watches, called the RJ Art-DNA. Unlike all the previous watches in this line, the Art-DNA watch doesn’t use exotic materials like ash from a volcano, metal from a DeLorean/Titanic, or dust from the moon. Instead, it takes its inspiration from contemporary art.

Romain Jerome has collaborated with Swiss artist John M Armleder to create 10 limited edition timepieces. The dials on the watches come with a skull that has been featured in mural paintings and is said to be inspired by Amerindian culture.

GoPro HD HERO3 Camera with Wi-Fi and App Compatibility

GoPro has released their latest line of cameras called HD HERO3; these cameras are smaller in size, lighter, and pack even more features than before. The GoPro HD HERO3 line consists of 3 cameras with different specs, ranging in price from $199 – $399.

The three cameras are known as “Black Edition”, “Silver Edition”, and “White Edition”, although none of the cameras are painted in those colors, instead they come in the standard silver and black livery. The cameras are 25% lighter and 30% smaller than the previous models and all come with built-in Wi-Fi.

Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard by TopCar

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a pretty luxurious car in stock form and the top of the line S600 is even more luxurious and packs a powerful V12 engine. But for some people the standard S600 isn’t luxurious enough and they customize it to the extreme levels; a good example is the TopCar tuned Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard.

TopCar, a Russian car tuning firm, created a bespoke super-luxury edition car for one of their super-rich customers. From the outside, the car looks like a standard S600 that has been armor plated and is equipped with thick bullet-proof glass; the interior is where the magic happens.

Jaquet Droz Bird Repeater Watch

A true work of art is one way to describe the incredibly beautiful and complex Jaquet Droz Bird Repeater watch. This watch doesn’t come with fancy chronographs or tourbillons; rather it’s made with an emphasis on art. I was pretty impressed with the Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute watch I wrote about last year but the Bird Repeater blows that watch out of the water. This watch is now officially my favorite high-end watch, a watch that will only be worn on very special occasions (if I owned one).

2013 Ford Flex Platinum Review

The original Ford Flex was introduced in 2009, and at the time, many journalists were confused by what type of a vehicle it was, and many of them weren’t big fans of the design (but hey, what do they know?). I personally liked the design from the beginning; I’m a big fan of vehicles with straight lines and boxy design. To me, the Ford Flex is a modern day take on the classic surf wagons. So if you’re also confused about what category the Flex fits in, it’s quite simple; the Ford Flex Platinum is a blend between a car (station wagon), a minivan, and an SUV – pretty simple right? All blended with in with some cool retro-styling.

From the outside, the Flex looks very low but when you stand next to it, the roof is quite high, I parked it next to a Ford Ranger truck and the Flex’s roof was higher than the Ranger’s. The Flex has the space of a minivan and the looks an SUV and can carry 7 passengers. So is the Ford Flex the right vehicle for you? 2013 Toyota Avalon

The Toyota Avalon is a car that we normally wouldn’t write about because it’s ugly, boring, not luxurious enough, and mainly because it’s driven by people who are over 100 years old. Toyota is trying to change the Avalon’s image by introducing a sportier new model for 2013.

The 2013 Toyota Avalon does look like it will appeal to younger buyers, buyers who are in their 60’s, which is a big step forward ;). But seriously, it doesn’t look too bad and is a major improvement over the previous bland models. I like the side view and the rear end is pretty sexy (as sexy as an Avalon can get)
