If you’re an athlete, chances are you’re in much better shape than the general population. Probably by a lot, actually.
But we’re not all athletes, and that’s why they’re a lot more qualified to give fitness advice. If you are trying to get in shape, be it losing weight or getting stronger, then you could probably use a couple of tips from actual athletes.
Below are six secrets from athletes that should help you achieve your fitness goals:
Train Early In The Day
Most Olympic athletes train early in the day. The reason that many people prefer to train early in the morning is because there are fewer distractions. People also like to go ahead and get their training session out of the way before they start their day. Furthermore, a morning workout can give people the energy that they need to get through their day. That is why you may want to consider working out in the morning.
Make Fitness A Top Priority
Laila Ali, who is a boxing champion, had the following to say about living a fit lifestyle, “People who are fit are not different from anyone else. They are just more committed.” Athletes make fitness one or their top priorities. They make whatever sacrifices they need to make so that they can exercise. In order to reach your goals, you have to make fitness your priority. You may have to get up a little bit earlier or squeeze a workout in even when you have a million other things to do.
Follow A Healthy Diet
Athletes know that they will not get the results that they want if they eat poorly. That is why they follow a healthy diet. Athletes’ diets are not perfect, and they do occasionally cheat. However, they strive to follow a healthy diet at least 80 percent of the time.
Wear Compression Socks
Athletes have to dress appropriately in order to get the most out of their training sessions. Compression seamless socks help competitors to improve circulation. If you’ve ever watched a competitive runner, or pro-athlete train you might have noticed long sock either on their legs or arms. Compressions socks and tights are worn to increase oxygen delivery, decrease lactic acid, and minimize muscle fatigue; they are also very comfortable. These “wonder garmets” have been the hottest new item in athletic circles for some time, and are now making it to mainstream.
Prioritize Sleep
Most people cannot function without the proper amount of sleep, and athletes are no exception. Sleeping helps repair muscles. It also helps boost athletic performance. Furthermore, sleep helps regulate metabolism.
Athletes try to sleep seven to eight hours per night. Some athletes will sleep up to 10 hours per night. In addition to getting the proper amount of sleep, you should try to get to bed before 11 p.m. each night. You may also want to avoid using the computer or watching television 30 minutes before you go to sleep.
Be Active Even During Off Season
Even when athletes are not training for a competition, they still remain active. They know that it will be a lot easier for them to train for their competition if they keep themselves in shape. You should make sure that you stay active on the days you cannot make it to the gym. You can walk, take the stairs or ride your bike. Move whenever you can because sitting is not good for you.
Athletes are one of your best sources for fitness information. They keep themselves in shape by training early in the day, making fitness a priority, eating right, using compression socks and staying active during their off season. They also get plenty of sleep.
These are some really great points! I believe in anything you do, consistency is the key!
