Why “What is your biggest weakness?” is a Stupid Interview Question

Over the years, I’ve gone through the interview process enough times to know that there’s one question in particular which I always dread. It’s the type of question that, no matter how you answer, you’re fucking yourself over. It’s the classic “What is your biggest weakness?“, and if you’re anything like I am, it probably takes you a monumental force of will to avoid rolling your eyes or outright vacating the room.

This interview parody called The Biggest Weakness highlights many of the reasons why asking an interviewee this question is not only irritating, but also completely pointless. The film’s writer and director, Bradley Jackson, did an excellent job portraying the interview process and this dreadful question. It’s almost… too accurate. Bradley doesn’t teach us how to avoid the question, but he does show us a series of completely hilarious ways to deal with it.

The Biggest Weakness

Most of the film is pretty funny, but I especially enjoyed the dancing scene. Given how incredibly stressful the interview process can be, a brief dance would probably help lessen the tension a little bit. Perhaps instead of asking interviewees useless questions, employers could break out into dance with music and scantily clad backup dancers. I can’t speak for everyone here, but I’m fairly certain this would make the process a whole lot more enjoyable for all persons involved.
