Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – Desert Village Gameplay Trailer

Naughty Dog released a brand new trailer for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and though I’ve never owned a PS3, I’m actually quite excited to give this a try. There’s something about the Indiana Jones-esque scenery and styling of the previous games – and this game in particular – that I really enjoy. I think it’s a real shame that Naughty Dog, the company producing the game, decided to keep this a PS3 exclusive, but that’s a rant for another day.

The trailer starts off with Nathan Drake in the middle of the desert, trying to find water. You may remember a previous trailer where Nathan is fighting off enemies on an air-plane before it crashes to the desert, and this video takes place after it crashes. I guess this is the nearest abandoned city, and obviously abandoned cities are full of enemies waiting to gun you down; that’s just how it works. So Nathan wanders around the city, and decided that the bottom of a dry well is the best place to find water. This makes sense, but this is also the point in the trailer where I start to get a bit annoyed. You see, Nathan jumps down some 30 feet, into an empty well, and gets up like it’s no big thing. When he’s done, he climbs out of said well faster than a robotic monkey on crack could do. I found these feats of super-human ability a bit jarring and flat-out silly.

Aside from my minor complaints, the game itself looks beautiful and varied, and the gameplay seems entertaining as well. It looks very action oriented and not even vaguely realistic, but entertaining all the same. Nathan appears to accept gunshots to the face as a matter of fact daily event, and it’s no big thing. This would fall into the same gripe category as his jump-master and monkey climbing feats, but because there’s no noticeable visual effect, I find it less annoying.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception arrives November 1st, 2011 for PS3.

  1. The same can be said for Assassins Creed or a million other games where they take one hell of a beating, jump 50 feet into the air, and never seem to get tired. It indeed does look like a very fun game though. Graphics look amazing. Have you played Battlefield 3 yet? Review it since I saw all those posts about it.

    • Sure, absolutely. Usually I’m able to suspend my disbelief and just go with it, but there are times where the movement or action looks just a bit too jarring for me. As for Battlefield 3, I’m definitely going to review that. I’m just looking at shoring up my computer right now to play it in all its glory.
