It has long been the case that women drive most shopping trends when it comes to in store and online shopping, but men are now quickly catching up. It is no surprise really, without being too stereotypical, the male style of shopping tends to be on the speedy side.
They know what they want and they find it and buy it, and they don’t tend to spend a huge amount of time browsing. But of course online shopping, particularly for clothes, can be hit and miss. It is all too easy to buy something that doesn’t fit, or doesn’t suit the intended purpose. Here are some top tips for success when online shopping.
Know your favourite brands and stick to them
If you have a favourite brand, that you know fits you well and you like the style, then stick with that. Especially if a brand has a particular cut. If you know you look great in a pair of Levi 501s (and jeans are notoriously difficult to get right even in store) then stick to that. If you are partial to a Fred Perry polo shirt and you know the quality is good, then don’t feel you have to change it up just for the sake of it.
This is especially true of shoes and trainers. One pair of size 9s in one shop might not be quite the same in another. There is no shame in sticking to your favourite brands if it is going to save you time, money and effort.
Don’t buy anything that you can’t return for free if it isn’t right
While an online sale with phenomenal clearance discount is great, double check what you’re agreeing to when you buy. Unless you are 100% sure you won’t need to return it, because you know its a favourite brand that will fit perfectly, avoid any ‘no returns’ policies.
This becomes even more important if you are trying new things, because the other piece of advice for online shoppers is to buy several sizes and return what you don’t want to keep. You don’t want to find yourself with several useless versions of the same item. It can get a bit hard on the wallet doing that!
Know your materials and what you will use the clothes for
A small bit of research into fabrics can really help you when choosing items online. Most online products will list the materials that make up the garment, so it doesn’t take a second to double check what that fabric is actually like. You can look it up online, or if in doubt go and check other items you already own to see what they are made from.
This is even more true of active wear or outdoor clothing. If you are looking for a great pair of hiking trousers, you want something lightweight, durable and breathable. You don’t want to end up with a figure hugging pair of chinos or stiff jeans that will become super heavy and uncomfortable in a downpour.
Similarly for sports clothes, you want to be able to move freely in the shorts or jogging bottoms, and you want to know that the fabric will be able to cope with sweat and exertion without dragging down your performance when you work out. This will come down to the material and usually a brand you can trust to specialise in that type of clothing.
For example no-one would question that Adidas knows what it is doing when it comes to performance activewear.
Keep an eye on the sales and clearance sections
One of the best things about online shopping is the sales. You don’t have to wait for seasonal discounts, website have sales all year round, and usually with a wider range of choice than in store. It is so easy to bag yourself a bargain online.
To make it even easier you can use an online shopping center like Buyviu. which has a dedicated clearance section that brings in discounted items from hundreds of retailers all on the same site with really easy to use search functionality. Rather than trawl loads of websites, it can find your item quickly and easily and then direct you through to the site to purchase. Giving you back plenty of time to do other things.
