Three Foes of the Winter Motorist (and How to Overcome Them)

Now is the winter of many a motorist’s discontent – icy roads, impossible levels of low visibility and windows that take forever and a day to clear up on the darkest and most miserable of Monday mornings.

It then goes without saying that winter is anything but enjoyable for drivers, so we thought that we’d put together some essential tips for preparing for winter and overcoming the three dreaded foes of every motorist’s winter season.

1. Snow and black ice

Number one on our list is, of course, the old winter motorist’s adversary of snow and black ice. These tricky driving conditions can result in everything from frustration at wheels that spin continually right through to the all-the more serious fender benders and break downs.

Winter Foe life hack: Our top tip for handling the roads well during bad weather times is to opt for winter tyres, which provide for better grip and better performance during the winter, beyond this however putting precautions in place, such as having a charged mobile, warm clothes and break down cover, is a must to ensure you

2. Misted and icy windows – every, single, morning (that take forever [and ever] to de-mist)

Misted and icy windows. Even with the best of de-icers it’s a task that we’d rather not be faced with on a dreary and seriously cold Monday morning.
Winter Foe life hack: You can avoid the daily de-ice by simply wiping an onion over the outside of your windscreen each night (oh, and those icy side mirrors that you only notice once you come to a dangerous junction? You can stop those from icing up by placing a plastic bag over each overnight).

3. Super high fuel consumption

It’s a bit of a conundrum. Whilst our vehicles are putting in a poorer performance during the winter our fuel consumption goes through the roof. Spinning wheels on iced roads, constantly running heating systems and petrol draining traffic jams are all to blame for consumption that can rocket by between 16% and 38% on average for a typical medium sized petrol car (AA 2010).

Winter Foe life hack: Whilst we can’t do much about the proverbial daily traffic jam on your way to work, we can provide the top tip of ensuring your car has a performance boosting clean fuel system. And you needn’t opt for an expensive service from your local garage either (which can easily come in at around $100); instead you can simply purchase Fuel Pro Complete – a pro fuel system cleaning kit that boosts your car’s performance. Super easy-to-use, competitively priced and addressing both air in-take as well as the fuel system, Fuel Pro Complete restores lost power and performance in one super-efficient swoop. What’s more this will also tackle the harm that can be caused by higher salt levels that are around during the colder months, something that your vehicle will thank you for winter after winter.
