The Hunter Trailer – Mystery of the Tasmanian Tiger

I’m a long time fan of Willem Dafoe’s work. He’s done numerous movies over the years, and though I haven’t always enjoyed the movies themselves (Daybreakers, I’m looking at you), I’ve almost always enjoyed his acting. If this trailer for his latest film The Hunter is any indication, then once again we’re in for a real treat.

The Hunter stars Willem Dafoe as Martin, a mercenary sent by a European biotech company into the Tasmanian wilderness to track down an animal that was thought to be long since extinct, the Tasmanian Tiger.

As you’ve likely noticed in the trailer, it looks like things don’t go quite as planned for our friend Martin. Much of the music is either scary, menacing, or both, and many of the scenes feature Martin running around the woods with a gun looking scared or angry.

My favorite part of the trailer is Martin preparing for the hunt. We see him readying his gun, looking over documentation and footage of the animal he’s tracking, and preparing himself for all the work ahead. It’s a small thing, but the lead up to action can be just as exciting as the action itself. There’s a reason foreplay exists.

The Hunter arrives in theaters everywhere on March 22nd, 2012.
