RUN – The Terrible Parkour Movie of The Year

Parkour is one of those movements that – much like skateboarding – has managed to endure the test of time, though arguably with a much smaller community than when it started. I think that’s a good thing. There may be less people, but they’re energetic and dedicated to their craft.

Every so often, though, a video game or movies comes out which shoots Parkour back into the spotlight, and everyone gets excited again. Many new people give it a try. Some stick around and enjoy it immensely, and some end up quitting after they realize how “tough” it is. The trouble is, whether they stay or leave, there’s one thing that remains consistent: the terrible movie that spawned all the excitement sticks around, just waiting to horrifying enthusiasts of said activity for all eternity.

I don’t know about you, but this trailer made me want to run away from my computer and track down the person who green-lit this monstrosity of a movie. Fine, go ahead and make sequel after sequel to the latest swill that the likes of Michael Bay churns out each year, but don’t you dare make a shit movie about something so close to my heart. Watching this was akin to having a red hot metal poker jabbed into my gut, or even worse – watching the bastard child of Step Up and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. Why Hollywood, why?? I knew they were going to run out of ideas eventually, but I didn’t expect it to be so soon.

Unfortunately, I don’t know when exactly we can expect RUN to hit theaters. I say unfortunately, because it means that I don’t have a release date in which to help me avoid being at the theatre for the few weeks that this film is showing. Let’s all keep an eye on their official Facebook page, and perhaps we can work together to avoid seeing this entirely. Sound good?

  1. As a traceur and a film student, I’m fairly pissed off that this is being made. If there isn’t already enough garbage film being made, OR shitty publicity to give parkour a different meaning, THIS thing has to get made. AAHHGG!

    • Benjamin, I couldn’t agree with you more. I’m all for exposure, but not all exposure is equal. Some of it simply portrays the discipline as something goofy and crazy, and I think RUN fits into that category.

  2. LOL

“I haven’t seen the movie but 90 seconds is enough for me to claim that it’s an atrocity and i hate it.”

It’s like the Westboro Baptist Church of Traceurs.

    • I’m tempted to go back and attempt to watch this now. Drunk, of course. I would need *something* to ease the pain.
