Most Requested Cosmetic Surgeries in the U.S

The amount of people opting for cosmetic procedures is on the rise in the U.S. with the most popular ones being, liposuction, Botox injections, breast implants, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty and face lifts. Recovery times vary depending on the procedure and individual characteristics of the patient.

Liposuction

Liposuction, also known as body sculpting, is a way to remove pockets of fat, like “saddle bags” and “love handles,” that might be difficult to get rid of in some body types. The surgeon simply vacuums out the fat through a tiny cut. You will experience bruising, swelling and numbness in the area you had suctioned due to the damage of nerves. The nerves eventually reconnect but this can take up to a few months. Recovery from such surgery takes a few days but the patient is usually able to leave the hospital the same day and avoid an overnight stay, depending on amount of fat removed. Costs across the U.S. vary but start around $2,000 and increase depending on how many areas you get done. Patients usually like to do more numerous areas in one sitting to get a better deal.

Eyelid surgery

Eyelid Surgery reshapes your eyelids. It is done to eliminate bagginess and fix lose skin around the eyelids, however it doesn’t remove fine lines or wrinkles. You will experience some swelling and possibly bruising after the surgery, which lasts for about a week or two but possibly longer.
The bruises usually heal in a week to 10 days. You might have a blurry vision for few days after the operation, and you may tear up easily, or have dry eyes. It costs $2,000 – $4,000 depending on the surgeon and the amount of reshaping needed.

Breast implants

Breast implants are saline-filled bags slid in between your breast tissue and your chest muscles, or between your chest muscles and your chest wall. There is not much down time with this surgery and I’ve even known friends who go on vacation and get the surgery done for cheap and continue to party one day after surgery. You will be advised to avoid water for up to 7 days after the surgery and feel healthy enough to go back to work almost right away. It goes without saying that you should avoid any vigorous exercise for 2-3 weeks.

Rhinoplasty

Commonly referred to as a nose job this surgery reshapes your nose by removing skin and transforming the nose’s structure, the bone and cartilage. You’ll need a few days of bed rest after surgery and will have mild to severe bruising as a result. The surgical wounds with this type of surgery are pretty severe. You will be in pain for the first two to three days possibly longer. The swelling might not go away completely for several weeks but bruising disappears within a week. You should feel normal in about 3 weeks and the surgery will set you back almost $4000, the cost may vary depending on surgeon and location.

Facelift

Aging causes your skin to sag and develop folds. The process of face-lifting will stretch the skin of your face up towards your scalp, making it tighter and smoother. Swelling and bruising are obvious after the surgery. The swelling may stay for more than two weeks but bruising goes away within a couple of weeks. There is a chance that you will also experience some numbness in your face, which can last for a number of weeks. You should be able resume your regular life in almost a couple of weeks after the surgery. You have to be cautious throughout the first few days of your recovery, avoid the sun and physical exertion. Face-lifting costs $5000 or higher.

Botox Injections

To get rid of wrinkles around your eyes, you can take Botox injections. For this procedure the muscles in the affected area are numbed so that the movement in those muscles can be easily controlled. No recovery time is needed and, you can simply take the injections on your lunch break and go back to work right after. Some people do experience bruising, swelling and numbness but this will go away in a couple of days. Regular maintenance injections are required for this procedure anywhere from every 3-4 months. The cost of botox injections go from $300 – $400 per treatment.
