Social anxiety is real. And it can interfere with someone’s learning capabilities especially if you feel alienated in a group. Developing a personal relationship with other students can help you — and them — feel more comfortable and responsive in the class. Participation will be to everyone’s benefit as we often learn more through open discussions, rather than simply reading up on a topic.
