We’re quickly coming up on the 30th anniversary of the Universal made film, Back to the Future. It’s a classic time bending movie featuring the legendary Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, and Dr. Emmett Brown, played by none other than Christopher Lloyd. Back to the Future is one of a handful of movies that helped shape my childhood, and I’m excited that I’ll finally have an opportunity to see it on the big screen starting this October, right along with a brand new Blu-ray special edition hitting store shelves and digital downloads on October 21st, 2015.
It’s worth mentioning that this date has a lot of significance, but I’ll come back to that in a moment…
Time to Party Like It’s 1985!
In order to celebrate, I’m throwing a little Back to the Future party with friends. What’s better than a night of time travelling shenanigans with good friends and delicious food?
If I could travel back in time or to the future
In the meantime, I started to think what I would do first if I could travel back to the future or even back in time. A cop out answer is that my life is perfect and I would not change anything….yeah right! Assuming that is true let’s just say I would like to take a peak at the future. I’d really like to see how my life turned out as I sit by the pool in Mexico reflecting (see said photo below)
As long as I have lived according to my values i’d be okay with that. But I can’t pretend I wouldn’t want to take a look at the technology 50 years from now. Maybe i’d be cruising around in my own airplane of sorts?
Sadly, I probably can’t fit all you fine readers in my house, so as a minor consolation I’m going to share some of my favorite little known facts about Back to the Future. In no particular order…
- Remember how I mentioned that October 21st, 2015 is a special date? That’s because Marty McFly actually travels to this date in the movie!
- A young Tony Hawk was actually credited as helping choreograph the various skateboard scenes.
- Dr. Emmett Brown’s middle name is “Lathrop.”
- The Ingredients of Doc’s “Wake Up Juice” are Tabasco sauce, cayenne pepper, chili peppers, onion, and mustard seed. Maybe I should have this at my party?
- Old man Peabody and his son Sherman are a tribute to Peabody and Sherman from Rocky and Bullwinkle, a duo that would frequently time travel.
- Biff’s “Pleasure Palace” is actually the famous Plaza Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas.
Pretty cool, right? Tell me something… what’s your favourite scene in the movie?
Leave me a comment below and let’s chat. I’m getting pumped up for the re-release just reading all these cool facts. Remember, you can see the re-release of Back to the Future in theatres this October, or own the Blu-ray for your very own on October 21st, 2015.
