How to Match Clothes When Going to the Gym

The odds are very high that you don’t put the same amount of effort and thought into the way you dress when going to the gym as you normally do for a wedding, a job interview or a normal work day. Well, it’s understandable. You are going to the gym to work out, and your main objective is to workout yourself until you are exhausted, and have probably built your muscles and developed six packs, of course.

However, it’s important to put some thought into how you dress to the gym, and apart from dressing to look good, you must also keep fitness and safety in mind by wearing flexible and breathable clothes. Ill-fitting wears can cause rashes, twitchy skin, or more severe injuries. Besides, keep in mind that your clothes may likely shift when you are working out, thus, you must wear clothes that will aid a solid workout. Below are some helpful tips for anyone confused on the clothing to wear to the gym.

Dressing for Women

1. Choose a Lightweight T-shirt or Sweatshirt

When going to the gym, always wear something breathable like polyester or cotton. Working out will surely make you sweaty, so you need to ensure that the heat isn’t tapped by your clothing. If possible, select a top that is designed specifically for wicking perspiration. For more breathable outfit, consider wearing sports bra or a tank top. If you are someone that has large breasts, you might want to wear a sports bra for a more comfortable workout experience. Regardless of your size, it is never a bad thing to have a little extra support.

2. Choose Your Bottoms

Wear a flexible material, with a flexible waistband: sweatpants, gym shorts, track pants, or yoga pants. It’s also worth mentioning that you need to own some of the best yoga pants for everyday wear if you are a fitness enthusiast. You ought to have the capacity to perform an extensive range of workouts while wearing the bottoms. Also, the bottoms you need to wear depend on your body or fitness goals: skin-revealing and tight clothing can help for showing off, and more flowing and baggier garments might help in blending in.

While short bottoms may offer you a lot of flexibility, they can reveal too much skin also. If you are the short of person that feels shy when wearing shorts, wear yoga or sweat pants. But if you are wearing shorts, assess yourself thoroughly in a mirror prior to going to the gym.

3. Bring Appropriate Footwear

The footwear you will wear will be determined by the type of exercises you are doing. In the event that you plan on doing cardio, then wear a footwear that will provide your legs and feet with a lot of protection. Remember that most gyms do not allow people to wear open-toed shoes. If you plan to run on a treadmill, ensure you bring your running shoes. However, if you will be utilizing an exercise or elliptical bike, your shoes don’t’ really matter – just make sure they are comfortable. If you plan on lifting weights, ensure to wear a footwear with arch support and ample ankle. Running shoes usually get the job done here.

Dressing for Men

1. Wear Shorts or Sweats

Ensure to wear bottoms that provide you with a full assortment of motion. Remember how sweaty you are going to get during your exercise, and consider how hot you will probably get. Avoid wearing bottoms that are up to an inch below your laps – particularly if they are free around your legs. Remember that the shorter your shorts, the lower the range of motion you can perform. If you do choose to wear shorts, keep in mind that people around may get to see the upper part of your leg when you are using machines such as the leg press.

2. Take a Breathable and Flexible Shirt

A cotton tank or t-shirt will get the job done. Then again, pick a breathable, sweat-absorbing polyester shirt. Choose something that is sweat-absorbing and will not limit your scope of motion. Since a tank shirt will reveal your arms, a t-shirt can be a more modest option. Decide what you are going for.

3. Choose Appropriate Footwear

Most gym-goers don’t really care about their clothing when going to the gym, so a lot of them just ignorantly put on whatever they feel like. However, the truth is that if you want to have an excellent overall gym experience, you must match your clothes properly. Follow our tips and you are bound to have an improved gym experience.
