The Evolution of PC Games – A Musical History Lesson

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a big fan of computer games. I’m constantly bashing consoles in subtle ways, and I’m constantly posting up the latest and greatest game trailers I can find. It’s kind of an addiction. Today, though, I’m sharing something just a little bit different.

The video you’re about to watch shows us the evolution of PC games, from the early days, right through to modern times. Text based games, to the latest and greatest shooters on the market. Even better, is that the entire video is set to fantastic music, much of which draws from the sounds of the games themselves. I just about came when I heard the familiar gunshot sounds of Command & Conquer. I’m sure there’s something boner inducing for you too.

This video was created by a digital creative agency called Reverse Enginears. I had never heard of them before, but apparently they’ve done quite a bit of work for Disney and Marvel, and judging by the quality of this video, I can’t say that surprises me. It was geeky through and through, and I loved almost every minute of it. My only complaint is that eventually, the video ends.

If you’re interested in seeing a full list of all the games shown in the video, head over to The Verge where they’ve taken the time to create a gigantic master list. I’m betting you recognized at least a few of the titles in there, but depending on how old you are, some of the ones shown early in the video may be a mystery. I’m fully willing to admit that I had neither heard of, nor seen the first few.
