Erasing a CD With Electricity – Danger! High Voltage

Back when I used to actually use CDs and other forms of physical media, I would sometimes erase the re-writable discs using my computer’s built in burning tools. This was useful for both saving money, and clearing off nudie picks when they’ve gotten enough use. Erasing CDs using electricity, though? I can’t say I ever tried that one.

Warning: Unless you have a hankering to hear the crackling sound of electricity, I highly recommend turning off the audio while you watch this. The speakers voice is, shall we say… less than pleasant.

What’s happening is that the electricity is working its way across the CD, stripping it of its metallic layer. No metallic layer, no data, and your CD full of Scheiße videos can be safely disposed of.

Despite how completely useless this is, it is pretty damn cool to watch. If you have the money, knowledge, and a bit of equipment, you too can completely erase a CD is an extremely over complicated manner! Just don’t blame me if anything goes wrong.
