I originally started writing this post with arms crossed, pouting face, and a mood as black as Adam Jensen’s augmented robotic arms. You see, a few days ago I found out that Deus Ex: Human Revolution (DE:HR) was “delayed” until August by Square Enix, reasons unknown. To have woken up and found out that I wouldn’t be able to play the game for another 5 months was bad enough, but to have it done after a massive influx of new media and information was just cruel.
After a few days of sulking, a bit of soul-searching, and an interview with Jean-Francois Degas, I decided that waiting another 5 months to play a game I’ve already been waiting years to play really isn’t that bad. It turns out that, given the complex and branching nature of the game’s plot, the game simply isn’t quite finished yet – there are still bugs to squash, and room for polish; this wasn’t merely a ploy by Square Enix to subject me to cruel and unusual torture, but instead the wisdom of a wise publisher who knows well to delay a game when it’s simply not yet ready.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution will arrive on August 23, 2011 in North America.
