Decorating Your Home to Impress Not Distress

Decorating a home is easy. You just take a collection of items and decorations, and assemble them in a pleasing way. It’s decorating your home well, that’s the challenge. Of course, this is never an easy task. Things often don’t look how you would visualise them. Instead, things can easily disappoint. So, to help you out, this post will go through some of the best ways to decorate your home.

The best decoration has to be tasteful. You can have things that clash or too many things that draw the attention. Instead, most of a room should be fairly bland. One or two features should be dotted about. But, there should never be a lot of them. Something like a coloured wall makes a good feature. Then, other items in the room can match that color. What sort of items should you use for decoration in the home, though?

Clocks

A clock can make a beautiful addition to any room. In a lot of rooms, like a kitchen or bedroom, a wall clock can be the best option. They stay out of the way, and will always be there when you need them. In a lounge, however, having a clock on the mantelpiece is a good way to spice up the room. You can find clocks to match most colour schemes. And, if you’re in doubt, a wooden clock will almost always look good. Be careful to avoid very vibrant clocks. They will distract a little too much from the clock itself.

Ceramics

Different textures will make a room feel more classy. Have some surfaces gleam in the light, and others reflecting nearly nothing will provide a good contrast between items. Ceramic items are good for rooms that have a lot of light. Their shine will last forever, and they will never look streaky or too dirty. You can get ceramics in all shapes and sizes, from ornaments to usable items. You can add some flair with an authentic Japanese ceramic bowl. Or, add a homely feel with painted plates. But, be careful, too much of these items and your room will look cluttered.

Framed Photos And Illustrations

Some people think that a wall should never be left blank. And, this is true, to a certain extent. Walls that are black will make the room feel dull and boring. Of course, a wall with a bright colour wouldn’t fall into this situation. So, you can keep those blank. But, neutral walls will suffer if they’re left without any decoration. Photos with tasteful frames are a great way to fill the walls with happy memories. Or, if you prefer artwork, hanging your favourite images will be nice, as well. Just make sure that you hang them straight!

Hopefully, this will inspire you to start making a difference with the rooms in your home. Your house should make you feel good. And, once you’ve finished making your rooms look beautiful, it really will. Do some research when looking for inspiration. Social media and forums can give you some great ideas.
