Deadlight – Story Trailer

Another zombie game? What a surprise! But do you know what’s even more surprising? This one actually looks really good.

Deadlight is a self-proclaimed cinematic puzzle platformer that follows the zombie filled adventures of a solitary man on his way across the American West Coast. The year is 1986, and the population has been decimated by a mysterious disease that turned everyone into zombies. As I’m sure you’ll probably agree, this story is 100% completely original. Thankfully, Deadlight seems to have a lot more going for it than its story.

If you’ve ever played Limbo, perhaps you’ll agree that there’s a striking resemblance between the aesthetic style of the two games. Though Deadlight features an expanded color palette (ie: there are actually colors, unlike Limbo), the same shadowy characters and stark contrasts are alive and well here, unlike the many sluggish, brain eating enemies that inhabit the game-world.

Despite my jabs at the lack of original storyline, I have a feeling that the dialogue and yes, perhaps even the story, will actually be quite solid. The voice acting is excellent, in an over the top, Max Payne sort of way, and the varied environments and multitude of “survivors” gives Tequila Works a lot of options for creating a deep and engaging story arc. The question is simply whether they make good use of that, or lazily employ the same sloppy dialogue and cliche story lines that plague so many other zombie films and video games.
