It happens sometimes, we just get in a rut of sorts. Whether it’s a factor of aging, or we just find that staying in is the new going out, we just get caught up in the habit of going through the motions. While this might sound a little grandiose, we kinda just get stuck in a cycle. Work, shopping, food, sleep, and before you know it, you’ve spent 6 months on this treadmill of routine. Now there are perfectly good reasons for us to be in this sort of cycle, maybe you have kids, or you’ve had a bad time recently, but the moment you recognize you are in this cycle means that you need to break free of this routine. They say that it’s not challenging yourself or challenging your mind is part of the reason that the western world is sedentary and unhealthy. So let’s begin there, what can we do? Some answers are surprisingly simple!
Do Something New
In other words, get a hobby. Being stuck in a routine means that we don’t venture out of our comfort zone. There’s always something that we’ve wanted to do, whether that is learning a language or an instrument or just making time to read that book, the very fact of doing something new is enough to engage your brain. And with doing something new, it is challenging for the first few hurdles, which means we are inclined to give up on it. Scientifically, the hardest part is when it benefits your brain the most because you are creating new brain links. So by doing something new, you are looking after your brain health and going to improve your life a lot more than by doing the same comfortable things.
Change The Pace
Another simple thing. The difference between picking up a new hobby and getting out of the house means that we can easily enclose ourselves at home and never venture anywhere, which can have an impact on your mental health in many ways. Something as simple as going to a Monster Energy monster truck race is different from the normal nights out, where you may just go to a bar and not speak to people. At least with something like a monster truck race, it’s a great atmosphere, and you can easily get swept up in it. Doing something that you would never normally do is another break from the comfort zones you are used to. And actually spending time with friends you haven’t seen in a while helps to break the cycle too.
Look At What May Be A Negative Influence In Your Life
This one can take quite a bit of digging and some amateur psychology, but if you are caught in a bad pattern, then is there one overriding factor that you may need to get rid of? It could be your job, which for many, it is. Taking positive steps to overcome something that may be the cause of this cycle might be the answer you are looking for to reinvigorate your life.
