Beyond: Two Souls – Dark Days, The Game

Do you guys remember Dark Days? For those of you that don’t remember, or simply haven’t seen the film, it’s basically a documentary that follows the lives of a group of homeless people living under the streets of New York City. Incredible documentary with fantastic beats by DJ Shadow, and a stark reminder of the tragedy of homelessness.

So, you’re probably wondering what the hell Dark Days has to do with Quantic Dreams upcoming game Beyond: Two Souls. Well, I’m going to tell you, but first…

BEYOND: Two Souls Tribeca Trailer

Check out this new Two Souls trailer from the Tribeca Film Festival. Given how cinematic Quantic’s games usually are, well… I’m not surprised that they presented new footage at a film festival, especially with Willem Dafoe and Ellen Page lending their voices to the two main characters in the game. They’re both pretty impressive, and well… I’ll shut up now and let you watch.

Looks pretty cool, right? From the bits and pieces that I’ve seen, it looks like Jodie Holmes (Ellen Page) is connected to another soul, and because of this, Jodie was being trained for some sort of military role. Excellent, that sounds like it could be enjoyable. And then… then we’ve got this. It’s a 30+ minutes bit of actual gameplay footage from Beyond: Two Souls, and it’s, well… it’s something.

I bet you figured out the Dark Days connection after about 30 seconds there, or at least when the fellow took Jodie to his “home”. Basically, a chunk of the 10 hour game is devoted to life on the mean streets of whatever city they’re in. Yeah… really.

Now, before you go calling me insensitive, know this: I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad move, however, given how passive the game looks, well… I have a feeling that I would rather be doing something that doesn’t involve pan handling and trying not to freeze to death. I guess we’ll see how much time Jodie actually spends as a homeless person.
