Like a fine wine, properly crafted selvedge jeans only gets better with age ~ Gaius Baltar
Often called the living fabric, good denim fades and creases as you wear them in, making them as unique (or lifeless) as you are. The more interesting a life you live, the more interesting your jeans will look. Some things just can’t be faked very well – like the fades on pre-washed jeans.
Thankfully, big box stores aren’t the only game in town, and we’ve got a wide range of places to order awesome, long lasting pairs of jeans from. Even places as far away as say, New Zealand.
Ande Whall, The Kiwi Denim Brand
If you’ve never heard of Ande Whall denim before, don’t feel too bad. He’s one of the selvedge denim communities best kept secrets, and given that he only produces in limited runs, well… people are loathe to share him with their friends. Not I, however… no, I’m eager to get you out of those $30 sack you call a pair of jeans, and into the seat of a nice hot Cougar, or Grizzly… or even a Cobra. We don’t discriminate here.
All of Ande’s jeans are named after awesome animals, with my favorite being the Buffalo. I mean, it’s not really my favorite animal – money’s will forever hold that spot – but calling a pair of jeans “The Monkey” just doesn’t sound as awesome as COBRA, or MUSTANG!!! or ACID WOLF! – the latter not actually being the name of any of his jeans, but really… it should be. In any case…
I’ve been wearing Ande Whall since the very beginning, when he still convened with the spirits of the forest to help produce his jeans. A dark time, when he accepted custom orders for every little aspect of the jeans, and probably went half insane in the process. It wasn’t pretty, but his jeans were, and over the years he’s prospered. His work has only gotten better, like that fine wine comparison I keep making.
Did I mention I like wine?
Cougars and Mustangs and Cobras, Oh My!
If my sexy photos have won you over, and you’re interested in getting a bit more information (I don’t blame you, I just rambled), then head over to Ande Whall’s website and take a look around. In fact, why don’t you send him an email? Ande is a cool guy, and he’s always done his best to answer all of my lame ass questions. Chances are he’ll even answer yours.
And as I’ve taken to saying recently, you don’t have to take my word for it. There’s a huge thread on Style Forums of satisfied customers.
