I don’t know much about the fashion world or the latest trends but I know enough to stay off the bandwagon by not wearing ball squeezing skinny jeans and skin tight pants in bright varieties. The shirt featured here today may not be the most expensive shirt in the world but it’s still out of reach for us regular folks…not that they’d want this shirt. The shirt seen here was unveiled at Herme’s Madison Square Outlet in New York and is made of 100% pure crocodile leather.
Crocodiles are a dime a dozen but this particular one is fabricated from the skin of the rare Nile crocodile. Not much details are available on the process that went into making the crocodile skin t-shirt or why it costs so much besides the fact it’s made by Hermes.
This Croc Died For You
Hermes uses crocodiles for many of their purses and to meet the demand, the French company has actually resorted to purchasing Crocodile farms in Australia. Apparently, some of the crocodile purses they produce has a waiting list of up to two years and can cost as much as $50,000. Screw that! I prefer to buy my girlfriend those “Inspired by Hermes” bags which cost a fraction of the price at a kiosk at the mall.
I guess the shirt is worth what people are willing to pay for it and from the sounds of it, it’s worth $91,500 plus tax. Not many pictures are available of the crocodile skin t-shirt on display as the store has a “No Pictures” policy but the bloggers over at Awl were able to sneak a picture of the price tag.
Forget that you knew how much this t-shirt cost, would you actually wear this thing? It’s a definite no for me. I wonder how much weight this shirt has to it?
