Aging is inevitable; however we can take action so it doesn’t become a problem. Here are some great tips to ensure we age well.
1. Pay Attention To Your Diet
It comes without saying that a balanced diet is a must for maintaining your good health and your vital energy. A healthy diet should include generous amounts of fruit and vegetables, oily fish, lean meat and whole grains. Also, it should be low in saturated fats and junk food that doesn’t have any nutritional value.
Always remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Dehydration may cause confusion and tiredness, so you should try to prevent it by drinking lots of water rather than indulging in sugary sparkling drinks.
If you can’t live without alcohol, try to limit it at maximum five days a week to allow your liver to process and eliminate those toxins and to recover from the negative effects of alcohol consumption.
2. Take Good Care Of Your Teeth
Brush your teeth twice a day. Even better, brush them after each meal. Also, remember to floss daily, preferably before going to bed. Floss helps preventing gum disease by removing plaque and food debris from between your teeth.
If you notice sore or bleeding gums, schedule an appointment with your dentist or with a dental hygienist. Also keep in mind that gum disease can be linked to other health problems such as heart disease, stroke, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Visit your dentist twice a year or each and every time you feel that something isn’t just right with your teeth. Also, if you wear dentures or bridges, ask your dentist to check how well they fit.
3. Embrace An Active Lifestyle
Exercise daily to stay healthy and fit. Daily exercise is one of the most effective methods to lower the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer. Furthermore, an active life is the key element of a better sleep. Stay active to give your self-esteem a boost and to feel more energetic.
According to government guidelines, older adults should do about 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity per week. In addition, they should do strength exercise routines twice a week.
If you think that’s too much for you, start small and gradually increase your exercise time as you see fit.
4. Use Your Doctor
Pay regular visits to your doctor and check your blood pressure and your cholesterol levels. These two problems are reversible with medication, but they may be difficult to detect, as they can go asymptomatic for a long while.

5. Take Vitamins
Many people suffer from vitamin D deficiency without even knowing about that. Statistics show that half of the adult population has this problem. Vitamin D deficiency may lead to cognitive impairment, cardiovascular disease and bone problems.
Try to spend time outside in the sunshine to get your daily vitamin D fix. About 15-20 minutes a day should be enough. In addition, consider eating fish and eggs or even taking a vitamin D supplement.
6. Take Proper Care Of Your Feet
Keep your feet moisturized to prevent dry skin. Cut your toenails straight across. Always choose comfortable footwear with good arch support.
If your feet start to ache, call your doctor right away. The sooner you address such problems, the better.
