If you weren’t aware, the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) is a major technology-related trade show held every January in Las Vegas, Nevada. The CES became popular show after COMDEX was canceled. Each year, companies of all sizes battle it out by introducing new technologies ranging from innovative and useful to simply ridiculous.
One example of the ridiculous is the Status Acoustics 8T Speakers with a price tag of a cool $50,000. The 8T Speakers set stands at six feet in height and weighs in at 314 pounds. I admit, the whole setup is aesthetically appealing and I’ve never seen anything like it before. Well, let’s see what makes this a $50,000 setup.
For starters, the 8T Speaker is available in 30 different finishes of wood-grain veneers while the cabinets are constructed of multiple layers of materials bonded together. This allows the setup to have the unique design and allows the thickness of the cabinet to be varied to help increase performance. The setup makes use of proprietary 6-inch Beryllium alloy mid-woofers and 1-inch Beryllium Scan-Speak tweeter in order to accurately convey music. The 8T also features three 10-inch high performing sub-woofers with 100 oz. Strontium magnets.

Okay, so I’m no audiophile and would not know the difference between a $10,000 sound system and a $50,000 one. So for that reason I can’t justify the price of this unit but I’m sure there are people out there that appreciate the 10 years of development that went into this.
