Who Will Win The World Cup?

With the World Cup on the horizon, this summer we’ll have the chance to see some of the best players on the planet take to the field. Promotional item specialists Stay Sourced asked the question, who will win the World Cup if goals were Twitter Followers? And did the research to find the winner of the Social World Cup! If you want to know more, including a full list of Social World Cup rankings, as well as team line ups and the Social Dream team click here.

The Social Prediction:

The infographic predicts that Spain will win the 2014 FIFA World Cup, against Portugal, with Brazil and Argentina as runners-up. Considering that followers and goals were equally considered, it’s fascinating that finalist teams line up with sports’ cognoscenti predictions from around the world. We agree that the social media strategies are pretty awesome, too.

Analysis of the Teams

Brazil is one of the best football teams in the history of the game, so there’s no doubt that Brazil will rise to the top. And Brazil has the home court advantage…

Brazil is also quite motivated this year. They’ve trained hard and redoubled efforts–and they’ve already proven themselves as fierce competition against Italy and Spain.

  • Neymar, considered by many as Brazil’s best, is directly compared to Lionel Messi… Analysts say that Neymar will lead the team to victory, and that’s important. Brazil didn’t get past quarter finals in 2012 and 2013.

We predict they’ll rise to the top this year.

Spain, the defending champion, is a dominant force in this year’s World Cup. They under-performed for many years and seemed to lack the energy to win. But now, will La Roja lead the charge to victory once more? Or is this the end of a winning trend? It’s certain that Spain’s seasoned team will play well.

  • Iniesta, a midfield champion, has commanded a coveted spot on FIFAs XI team since 2009!

There’s no doubt: Spain is a trendsetting contender.

Argentina Albiceleste can bring on the heat at this year’s World Cup! Opposition back lines, including Aguero, Higuain, and the media’s favourite,  Messi, are strong. Scorer di Maria is likely to continue to keep the midfield…but we still don’t know about the team’s stability at the back.

Argentina will be one of the top contenders of this year’s World Cup.

Portugal has a strong social media strategy and Ronaldo (winner of FIFA’s Ballon d’Or) is considered their very best player in the world this year. Ronaldo’s gotten some negative attention from the press after completing his own trophy museum, but the Portugal team hasn’t gotten past the Group of 16 in the past.

Perhaps Ronaldo really is that good!

Conclusion

This year’s excitement about the World Cup is well-deserved. The teams and players are ready. The pressure’s on for real.
