Ultra-Ever Dry – Nissan’s Dirt Resistant Nano-Paint Technology

Nobody likes a dirty car and what a satisfactory feeling you get when you detail your car inside and out all by yourself. It’s a labor of love for sure. But then there are times where you wish your car was sparkling clean but just can’t be bothered with the actual work to get it as clean as you want. There are little tricks to delay the cleaning process by either getting a good wax job for your vehicle or perhaps some type of a ceramic clear coating. That’s fine and all but what about a paint job that actually resists your everyday dirt, mud, and grime?

I can tell you that car wash businesses and detailers are not going to be very happy to learn that Nissan is currently working on a project called “Ultra-Ever Dry” which is an innovative nano-paint technology that repels mud, rain, and everyday dirt. We’re not exactly clear on whether this “paint” is a permanent application or it has to be reapplied every few years. Without saying it’s a permanent solution, Nissan does state that this paint technology could make car washes obsolete and that drivers may never have to clean their vehicles again.

Nissan Technical Centre Europe is currently testing the super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint on the Nissan Note hatchback. The system creates a protective layer of air between the paint and environment in real-world conditions. The technicians state that the technology has responded well to common use cases such as rain, frost, spray, sleet, and standing water.

Nissans has not said anything about this new paint technology being applied to new vehicles as a standard feature but it is considering to offer this as an aftermarket option in the future.

Depending on the cost of the paint, it could be an option that is very beneficial to consumers. The technology may not be able to resist all types of grime like tar and bugs, but it will certainly help in making the cleaning process a lot easier. And what about unfortunate incidents where you get into a crash? The paint would have to be reapplied at Nissan dealerships which could potentially cost a lot more. And think of the car washes business that would be affected by this type of technology.

What do you guys think of this paint?
