How Are You Treating Your Beard?

Over the last few years, I’ve experimented with a variety of looks for my facial hair. I first started doing so with the initial excitement of being able to grow a decent looking beard, and then laziness took over from there. A while back, I also read that women find men with a 10-day-old beard most attractive. Recently though, I’ve began to put more effort into my beard.

A friend of mine recently recommended Beardbrand oils. After his praise about the product, I decided what would be the harm in rewarding myself with a late Christmas gift. I logged onto beardbrand.com, had a long look around, and ordered three different beard oils and for purely entertainment purposes – some mustache wax.

Just a couple days later, my box of fun had arrived. From the beginning, I was impressed. For a small business, their packaging was better than most I’ve seen. The products were nicely sealed, and well protected. My package also came with a card, a pin, and a sticker, which I quickly added to my MacBook collection.

I received three different bottles of beard oils: Spice Citrus, and Tea Tree, and Tree Ranger, along with the same three scents of mustache wax. I first started with the obvious – opening and smelling all the available options.

Spice Citrus:
It smelled right along with what I had expected, a solid balance of spice. It wasn’t overwhelming; instead, it was modest and good smelling.

Tea Tree:
Tea Tree was the next of my scent test. Although it smelled good, it had a very soft scent. I don’t imagine it’s something you could smell on someone like cologne, but if a girlfriend were to get close enough, they definitely would notice.

Tree Ranger:
This is the one I was most excited for, as I had used this scent for other things. It definitely didn’t let me down. It smelled incredible, and was exactly what I hoped for. This was definitely my favorite of the three. I must have smelled it over ten times before finally moving onto the mustache wax.

The scents are really what separate this oil from the other oils I have tried in the past. As far as functionality goes, it was as I expected. It applied easy, and soaked in well. It didn’t leave a greasy feeling. I also imagine it would help with the dandruff people have in their beards from time to time. It left my beard feeling fresh and healthy.

Mustache Wax:
I probably had more fun with this than one should. My girlfriend and I tried to give me every possible ridiculous mustache look we’ve ever seen in movies. After experimenting with several, I settled with the good old handlebar mustache. I actually left it on for the remainder of the day, and I was impressed with how well it held form. It applied easily and smelled just like the beard oils.

Although the mustache wax worked really well, it’s not for me. Although, I did get hours of entertainment out of it, it’s not something I’d probably buy on a consistent basis. I’ve never been much of a mustache man.

On the other hand, I was thoroughly impressed with the beard oils. Their scents were spot on. It was easy, practical, and something I could get in the routine of using. Without a doubt I can say that I’ll definitely be ordering another bottle of Tree Ranger oil.

  1. So, what is the point of beard oil? Is it to keep down the frizz that happens once you get about 2 weeks in? I just use shampoo and conditioner in mine and don’t have much trouble. When I was sporting a lumberjack I used tee tree oil once, but that was just to help straighten it out for a costume party.
