The Prototype – Teaser Trailer

It’s always exciting to some something original in the works, especially something Sci-Fi related. With the exception of a few movies and television shows (such as Battlestar Galactica), the Sci-Fi genre hasn’t really gotten much love these past few years. I’m hoping that starts to change with movies like Prometheus, and the Bandito brothers upcoming film The Prototype.

Details are scarce, but what I can gleam from the trailer is that a special military project gets loose, and the brass aren’t happy about that. I’m not going to say any more because in a way, the teaser already spoils quite a bit. Suffice to say the visuals look pretty neat (minus a minor gripe I’ll mention later), and there’s even a hint of a decent story in there.

I’ve watched this trailer a few times now, and I actually kind of like it. For those of you that have played the Crysis video games, perhaps you’ll agree that the characters look very similar. This fellow looks like he’s wearing a Nano suit. That’s fine and well, as the concept is actually quite interesting. What I don’t like, is his unbelievably silly mask. It reminds me of a mix between two characters from Hellboy – Abe, and that crazy mechanical Nazi, Karl Ruprecht Kroenen – neither of whose faces I particularly liked. Honestly, why does he need a mask at all? Give him augmented eyes or something.

Minor visual qualms aside, I’m hoping that The Prototype can bring something at least vaguely fresh to the table, and with an interesting story to boot. “Escaped military project” has been done time and again, but not usually with such a Sci-Fi twist.

There’s currently no known release date for The Prototype, but I’ll post updates as they become available.
