The 3 Best Meals to Avoid Being Tired and Grumpy

There are a lot of people around the world who feel physically tired without making a big effort. Many can connect it with being lazy, but it usually is a symptom of anemia. Now, this isn´t a very big deal, it is a condition in which your blood has low haemoglobin levels, which is the glue that sticks oxygen to your blood cells. Without it, your body is less oxygenated, thus making you feel like you just ran a marathon when you get up to go to the kitchen.

To improve this constant tiredness, you need to add more iron to your body. This element will improve your haemoglobin levels and decrease several symptoms of anemia, such as being tired, headaches and general weakness. There are a lot of common meals that have high levels of iron, and you´ll want to increase their amount in your diet if you feel any of those symptoms.

The first in is red meat. It has 2,5mg of iron every 100g, which sounds like not much, but when you consider that the recomended daily intake (RDI) of iron is of 8mg, it´s almost one third! And 100g of red meat isn´t even a full meal.

Another great iron source are egg yolks. They have 7mg every 100g, almost the RDI! Whoever, it´s worth noting that 100g of egg yolks would be very bad for you for a lot of other reasons (cholesterol, fat, etc), but it´s good to know that adding egg yolks (just the yolk, a full egg goes down to 2,5mg per 100g) to your meals will substancialy increase your iron levels.

Finally, we have whole grains. The amount of iron can be between 7 and 18mg per 100g depending on the kind, but its a big number anway. The main problem with them is that they have a lot of fiber, making them very difficult to absorb by your body. But they have several other great nutrients (ironically, fiber), so they are a great option to add to your regular diet.
