The Sound of Alien: Isolation — Creative Assembly Developer Diary

It’s been decades since Ridley Scott’s Alien first hit the silver screen and wowed moviegoers the world over. I wasn’t even born when it debuted.

Since then we’ve seen a handful of Alien and Aliens inspired games and movies. Some have been good, some have been… not so good. But in my opinion, none of them have truly captured the atmosphere of Ridley Scott’s original masterpiece.

What was it about Alien that was so tense, so thrilling, so atmospheric? The cinematography played a huge part, absolutely. The acting and set-pieces too. But what really stood out for me was the music and sound stage. Those were works of pure genius, and now, after all these years, I believe we’re about to see them re-created for a whole new generation of Alien fans in Creative Assembly’s Alien: Isolation.

The Power of Sound

I’ve written about Alien: Isolation before, and what I’ve seen looks great. What I hear? Well, that sounds even better. If you’ve got 3 minutes to spare, check out this developer diary where the Alien: Isolation team sounds off on how they created the incredible music and sounds of their upcoming survival game.

It takes a lot to startle me, and even more to really scare me, but I have a feeling I’ll be doing a lot of screeching when I finally get my hands on this.

We’ve only heard a small sample of the music, but already I’m hooked. It’s like the original, yes, but also something unique. Dare say I could see myself listening to this while I work. The jarring, intense sounds might help keep me awake after a long day of answering all the inane emails I receive!

And speaking of emails, I recently received a heads up about the Alien: Isolation release date. It’s now arriving for all major platforms on October 7th, 2014.

Until then, expect more updates as the developers trickle out news, clips, and screens of the game.
