The Scooter That Folds In Two – MOVEO Electric Scooter

We’ve written about plenty of electric scooters in the past and they are all pretty much the same thing at the end of the day with with minor differences such as weight, speed, and some design elements. And usually, when you hear “folding scooter”, something along the lines of a stand-up scooter comes to mind. The MOVEO Electric Scooter, however, features a traditional seat that is mounted directly on the chassis and actually resembles the scooters we have become accustomed to on the streets. The unique feature on the scooter is that it can be folded in two and dragged into a building like a suitcase!

The MOVEO electric scooter is the creation of Antro Group, a non-profit Hungarian organization which develops environmentally friendly modes of transportation. Work on the MOVEO project has been ongoing since 2008 and the company is seeking funding to help launch the vehicle into the next phase of commercial development of the scooter.

The current design and prototypes of the scooter weigh in at 55 pounds, has a top speed of 28mph, and a battery range which allows it to travel 21.75 miles per charge. The MOVEO electric scooter is propelled by in-wheel motors found in both of the wheels. The 55 pound weight may seem pretty light but considering the fact you have to haul it around like a suitcase might make things difficult if you’re on the weaker side. And if you do end up leaving it parked outside, hopefully there are some security features in place which would prevent people from taking off with it.

Folding the scooter’s carbon-composite body in two takes about two minutes and can be pulled via an integrated handle just like a suitcase. The vehicle has a “closed design” when folded which will prevent users from getting dirty.

If the project is sufficiently funded, the company plans on producing 15,000 MOVEO scooters per year. Plan B means not enough funds were raised and a medium-scale production is planned with 4,000 units being produced. Depending on the funding of the project, the projected price of the scooter will either be $3,000 or $4,600 (Plan B).
