Scion FR-S GRMN SPORTS FR Concept Platinum by Gazoo

For the past year and probably next few years, it’s looking like the Toyota 86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BR-Z will be the car of choice in the car tuning arena. We’ve already seen so many concepts and variants released by a number of companies and it looks like the trend will continue after Gazoo Racing, Toyota’s tuning partner, revealed their GRMN Sports FR Concept Platinum at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon. The first vehicle this Scion FR-S concept reminds me of is the legendary Toyota Supra and until Toyota brings that car back, this will have to do.

We’ve all heard the complaints about the stock Scion FR-S not being powerful enough and this concept has no problems in over delivering when it comes power or looks. Gazoo Racing updated the look of the vehicle by pretty much giving it a new front end. The front receives a new vented hood, headlights, and a bumper which gives it a very Toyota Supra feel. In the rear, the car gets redesigned taillights, rear bumper with a diffuser, what looks like a new trunk, and a very, very large spoiler. The changes are drastic enough to change the appearance but still manages to stay true to its “roots”. With the changes also comes 18-inch alloy wheels and more meaty rubber.

The Scion FR-S by Gazoo Racing is very race oriented and the interior definitely shows that with its bucket seats and four-point seat harness, full roll cage, and race oriented steering wheel. The goodies that matter most are tucked away under the hood of course. Gazoo Racing implemented a twin-charge system (turbocharger and supercharger) for the boxer engine which deliver 325 horsepower and 318 lb-ft of peak torque. No details are available about exact engine modifications but chances of it being simple bolt-ons is probably not it.

A six-speed manual transmission delivers the much needed power to the rear wheels. Suspension and brake upgrades are a given but unknown at the present moment. Overall, I’m a fan although they could have given it a shorter name, like seriously? We’ll see if these modifications will be offered to consumers.
