Return of Need for Speed

EA announced a reboot of their popular gaming franchise, Need for Speed. They released a short teaser trailer, and even though it didn’t reveal much, it has me excited. It’s undeniably cool to see a RWB Porsche tandem drift with what appears to be Vaughn Gittn Jr.’s prototype Mustang. I also spotted a Hakosuka, a Rocket Bunny equipped Scion FRS, and a heavily modified 240sx. So it’s clear the game is embracing current trends and giving gamers some of the most popular chassis around.

The trailer is rendered in-game, which has some very impressive visuals. It seems the game will be getting back to its roots, in the form of an open world, arcade style racer. Ghost Games, the developer, says that Need for Speed will have an emphasis on car culture and customization. I’m looking forward to seeing how in depth and authentic it really is. A full trailer is scheduled for release on June 15th.

Need for Speed will be released in Fall of 2015, on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. For more information visit the Need for Speed website.

  1. EA is trying so hard to keep the NFS universe alive. In fact they are now repeating the things they have done in the past to the franchise, like recreating the NFS Underground and Underground 2 which people loved. But that was more than 10 years ago. They have to do something surprising to lure back the fans.
