Rekindle Candle – The Candle That Won’t Give Up

Alright, most of you guys probably don’t give a damn about candles. I personally don’t mind them and it’s nice to light them up once in a while. Candles can be soothing and have the ability to make some people feel more relaxed. And those scented candles are pretty sweet too.

A candle doesn’t last forever though and I always wondered why people didn’t recycle the melted wax. This is where the Rekindle Candle comes into play and is the creation of designer, Benjamin Shine. The device looks like any other conventional candlestick holder except that it’s made up of a hollow tube. You simply stick a candle into the top attachment like any other candle, and as the candle burns down, some of the melted wax will slowly collect inside the lower tube over time.

The lower portion of the hollow tube already has a suspended wick inside so once there is enough melted wax in the lower portion, a new candle is formed and ready to be used again.  And the recycling action will continue. I’m not sure how many candles it would take to form a new candle because a good quality candle should not drip if it has a proper wick to fuel ratio. Most of the wax should oxide anyway.

The idea is pretty cool and if you’re into candles and like the idea of this, head over to Benjamin’s website for more details about this and other projects he has on the go.

If this was an efficient way to recycle candles, I would use my favorite scents back to back and create a new candle that has all the scents I like in one candle.
