Range Rover Sport SVR: Fastest Land Rover Ever

The much talked about Range Rover Sport SVR SUV is here, which is the fastest Land Rover ever and the fastest SUV around the Nurburgring racetrack.

Up until now, if you wanted a really fast luxury SUV, you’d have to go to the German brands with their Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Mercedes ML63 AMG, and the BMW X5/X6 M. But now the British have a go fast off-road solution for you.

The Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by the familiar 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine, producing 550 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque, mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission found on the regular Range Rover, but the company did say the transmission has be re-tuned to deal with the added power. The large SUV sprints to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 162 mph; it also completed the fastest lap around the Nurburgring in 8 minutes and 14 seconds!

Styling-wise, the SVR doesn’t look much different from the regular Range Rover Sport, except for the front bumper, which has larger openings to help the engine breathe better. The interior is also pretty standard with the exception of racing bucket seats for the front and the rear passengers.

As fast as the SVR is around the track, this is still a Land Rover and is able to perform well off road. Although going off-road on the 22” wheels with 295/40 R22 sports tires might make it a struggle.

This is the first vehicle in the Land Rover lineup to wear the SVR badge, so expect to see other crazy-powerful SUVs from the British automaker in the near future.

The 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR has a starting price of $110,475 in the United States, making it around $3,000 cheaper than the base Cayenne Turbo.
