Paths of Hate Trailer – A Damian Nenow Film

This is the extended version of the Paths of Hate trailer, a film which I had never heard of, by a director whom I didn’t know existed. After watching this footage, I can safely say that that’s a shame on both counts. You see, I’m not usually one for animated films. When a person tells me that I should watch a trailer of such and such animated film, my mind immediately drifts towards visions of anime girls with big saucer eyes and giant tears and tentacles and that sort of thing. It’s a bad habit, and if there are more films like Paths of Hate, then clearly my prejudice is unfounded.

What I like most about this trailer is the art style. If you’ve ever seen A Scanner Darkly, perhaps you’ll agree with me that the scenes in Paths of Hate look almost rotoscoped. I think that’s a good thing. The characters, aircrafts, and the world itself all look realistic in a sense, but with an obvious painted quality. The music is equally fantastic and seems to match the scenes unfolding on the screen perfectly.

All in all I’m very excited to watch the full film, and if any of you happen to know screening locations, please leave a comment. I know it was shown at the Melbourne International Animation Festival, Comic Con, Siggraph, and a slew of other places.
