The Parkour Powered Rube Goldberg Machine

You may not be familiar with the term “Rube Goldberg machine“, but I guarantee you’ll recognize the concept. It’s basically a very complicated, over-engineered device that serves a very simple function. It’s like using a space shuttle to make toast, and sometimes the results can be hilariously awesome.

This video features a very unique Rube Goldberg machine in that there’s a Parkour element to the device as well. Not only are there tons of crazy contraptions, but there are also people – human cogs if you will – that help drive the chain of events. If I’m not explaining this properly, well… you’ll see.

Rube Goldberg and the Power of Parkour!

It probably won’t surprise you to learn that this was filmed and paid for by Redbull. They fund all sorts of crazy acrobatic and athletic insanity, like this other Ryan Doyle Parkour video from a while ago. If they keep releasing great footage like this, then I’ll be more than happy to continue mixing their magical energy increasing drink with my Vodka every weekend.

Now, I had absolutely no idea who Jason Paul was, so I decided to do a little bit of research. I’ve learned that his last name is generally reserved for a person’s first name, and also that he’s a giant corporate sellout. I’m just kidding, there’s nothing wrong with that. No, he’s actually a “world freerun champion”, which is even more nebulous than his crazy backwards forwards name. Either way, he’s clearly a very talented fellow, and I imagine we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of him, at the very least in commercials involving lots and lots of jumping.

If you have any favorite Rube Goldberg style machines of your own, feel free to share them in the comments below. Hint: The crazier the better.
