A few of the guys here at Unfinished Man have always been huge fans of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon Series. So it’s a bit of a surprise for me that I have never seen the G-Wagon LAPV 6.X Concept vehicle (Light Armored Patrol Vehicle). It’s been around for about a year but it’s completely new to me. And if I missed it, I’m certain other guys that are also extremely “busy” like me have also not seen this sweet ass ride.
This LAPV 6.X Concept is capable of carrying 2,866 pounds of cargo in the toughest of terrains including war zones thanks to the armored plating on the side and under body of the vehicle. The vehicle features modular armor plate system allows the damaged plates to be removed quickly and replaced with new plates including a mine deflector plate on the floor of the G-Wagon. The LAPV 6.X is capable of hitting a top speed of 150 km/h.
The G-Wagon also has an adjustable suspension with close to 18-inches of ground clearance allowing it to tackle tough terrain and demonstrating excellent off-road characteristics. The vehicle is also fitted with full combat communication and jamming system, a common rail diesel engine, and hydraulic ventilated disc-brake system. Mercedes-Benz has collaborated with a leading supplier of military technology, EADS, to bring innovative high performance systems to the LAPV 6.X.
Some of these systems include:
- EADS vehicle data recorder system to automatically document vital mission data such as position, data link and vehicle usage status.
- EADS integrated communication system for UHF or VHF bands including a mobile Tetrapol base station for radio coverage out of a range of other networks
- EADS integrated mobile command, control and information system for seamless relay of commands through all levels.
- EADS jamming system for greater security, flexibility and scalability.
