Omega Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 Olympics Watch

With the 2014 FIFA World Cup in its final stages, the country of Brazil is surely going to start turning its attention to the next big gaming event in the country, the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Like the past 26 Olympics games (summer and winter), Omega watches is once again the official timekeeper and as usual, they’ve released a limited edition watch to commemorate the occasion.

The Omega Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 Olympics watch is limited to 2,016 pieces, the number representing the year the Olympics takes place. The 2016 Olympics watch is based on the Speedmaster Mark II watch we recently wrote about.

Like the 2012 London and 2014 Sochi Olympics watches, the dial of the Olympics Speedmaster Mark II doesn’t really give away the fact that this is an Olympics watch. However, the outer rings on the three chronograph sub-dials are finished in gold, silver, and bronze, representing the medals awarded for the top three finishes at each gaming event. The caseback is embossed with the official logo of the Rio games, the five Olympics rings, and the words “Rio 2016”.

The Omega Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 Olympics watches come in 42.4mm stainless steel cases with stainless steel bracelets. The dials are black/grey with three hands, three sub-dials, a date window at 6 o’clock, and tachymeters on the outer edges of the dial. The dials are covered with AR coated sapphire crystals and the watches are water resistant to 100 meters. The watches are powered by Omega’s in-house COSC-certified caliber 3330 self-winding automatic movements with 52 hours of power reserve.

The Omega Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 Olympics watches are priced at $6,500 US. Via: Omega
