Off-Road Legend – Land Rover Defender Assembly Line

As many of you may know, the Land Rover Defender is on its way out and this is the final year of production of the classic off-road vehicle. If you click this link, you will see the Defender in all its glory with the special editions and after market upgrades. The Land Rover Defender is unfortunately going to be replaced by an impostor which will never be able to fill the shoes of a classic that has been around since 1983. Back then, it was known as Ninety, One Ten, 127, and 130 depending on the length of the chassis.

Over the years, the design has changed somewhat but overall the vehicle stays true to its roots not only in design but also the way it’s built. The video below gives us a small glimpse into what goes on inside the production facility at the Solihull plant in Solihull, UK.

This production facility is also the place where other legends are manufactured such as the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery, and even the Jaguar XE.

I can’t afford a brand new Land Rover Defender but perhaps I’ll get my hands on a pre-owned one some day (1997 or prior) when there is room for an extra vehicle. Although this is just a vehicle, it’s still disappointing to the beautiful Defender go. If Mercedes-Benz pulls the plug on the G-Class, there will be hell to pay because that’s another classic.
