Newly Refreshed ‘Fiat Ducato’ Work Van

I used to drive the Fiat 500 a couple of years ago when I was working at a car rental place and it was one of those vehicles where most customers would try to avoid at all costs except a few female college students here and there. Unlike the Fiat 500, which I’d never want to be caught driving, the Fiat Ducato actually looks pretty interesting. Although a work van, it’s surprisingly attractive and probably one of the better looking work vans on the market at the moment.

I also used to drive the Ford E-Series cargo vans so I know a nice looking van when I see one. The new Fiat Ducato is recently updated and looks very similar to its sisters such as the Peugeot Box and Citroen Jumpy with the exception of the front grille and badges. The updated Fiat Ducato will be presented at the Balocco Test Center to the international press next month in Italy.

The Fiat Ducato is set to arrive in the US later this year as the updated 2015 Ram ProMaster. The updates to the cargo van include two different colors for the front grille, new 16-inch wheels, skid plate, newly designed LED headlights, and a three-part front bumper which will help reduce repair costs. These types of work vans are all well accustomed to getting bumper damage.

The Ducato will be offered in three different trims levels (Classic, Tecno, and Lounge) with each bringing more comfortable seating and various comfort features for both the driver and passenger. The vehicle is epxected to be offered in a base 2.0-liter four cylinder diesel engine producing 115 horsepower while the 2.3-liter variant will produce either 130 or 150 horsepower. A 3.0-liter engine will develop 180 horsepower.

The base engine is available with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard while the other models get a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. An optional automatic Comfort Matic gearbox is only available on the 2.3-liter and 3.0-liter engines. For its size, fuel consumption is pretty good returning as low as 5.8 L/100km (40.5 mpg US). According to Fiat, the refreshed Ducato has the best gross vehicle weight weighing in at 9,700 lbs and can carry a payload of 4,629 lbs.

The Fiat Ducato work van is available in eight different forms depending on the job requirements. Cargo space ranges from eight to 17 cubic meters and the vehicle is available in four different lenghts and three different heights. The chassis cabs variants are also available in six different lengths. The prices should be in the same range as its predecessors.
