All-New Nissan Frontier/Navara Revealed

From 2001 to 2004, the North American Nissan Frontier was my favorite small pickup truck. I loved the design and my favorite model was the crew cab with a short bed. After that, I was never really a fan of any of the Nissan trucks including the mighty Nissan Titan. For 2015, Nissan Navara has been redesigned from the ground up after nearly a decade of the same yawn-inducing design. The Navara is Nissan’s global mid-size pickup truck and a lot of the design cues are expected to make it onto the 2015 Nissan Frontier.

The 2015 Nissan Navara is said to have a highly competitive fuel economy, better acceleration, easier operation, a more rigid and durable frame while having a modern yet tough and strong design. The new model will have operating costs thanks to a more fuel-efficient lineup of engines and the reduction in body mass.

On the exterior, the Navara has a sleeker look using Nissan’s new “V-Motion” chrome grille, updated headlight design with LED daytime running lights, and chrome trim for the fog lights. The vehicle is now also available in two new paint jobs: Savannah Yellow and Earth Bronze.

The roof of the Navara is now lower than on previous models while the ground clearance is higher. The loading area is also larger and the truck is to be offered in a wide range of body types including wide-body. And each version will be available in all-wheel drive and two-wheel drive. When it comes to the interior, the dashboard has been redesigned and a multifunction steering wheel. Aluminum trim pieces can be found around the center cluster and console as well as seats with stitching.

The 2015 Nissan Navara will be available in a improved 2.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. The diesel version has two different power outputs with 160hp and 297 lb-ft of torque and 187hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Power figures on the gasoline version were not revealed but the previous model was producing 152 horsepower. Fuel economy has been improved by as much as 11 percent thanks to a new seven-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual is also available for both the diesel and gasoline engines.

The North American version of the 2015 Nissan Frontier should look very similar if not identical to the pictures seen here. No word yet on whether the diesel will be available here and whether Nissan is going to dump the V6 engine for the North American market.
