All-New Jaguar XE – New Meaning to Compact Luxury

Jaguar has been on quite a roll these last few years and the Unfinished Man team has actually test driven the Jaguar XF-R, various trims of the XJ, the XK-R, and the F-Type S. And now the company has its sights set on the BMW 3-Series with its all-new Jaguar XE which is expected to be a game changer. Competition is always a good thing for consumers and those looking for a mid size premium sports sedan will now have an additional option along with the Audi A4, Mercedes C-Class, Lexus IS, and the Cadillac ATS.

The Jaguar XE is expected to go on sale in 2015 and is the first vehicle to be developed on Jaguar’s all-new advanced aluminum architecture and a range of future Jaguars will also be built upon this platform. Lots of details will follow once we get close to the launch date but consumers can expect the vehicle to cost approximately the same as the competition if not a little bit lower.

The all-new Jaguar XE may not be significant to some but to many car enthusiasts, Jaguar entering this segment again is welcoming. Introducing a mid-size luxury sedan will help Jaguar to continue to its sales growth as well as give consumers a less-expensive and smaller entry point to the brand. And hopefully, after the launch of the XE, people will forget about the Jaguar X Type ever existing.

As mentioned, the vehicle will sit on the new aluminum architecture making the XE very light and a fun vehicle to drive. The advanced underpinnings means that the Jaguar XE will likely be lighter and more nimble than the competition. This should be appealing to those who want luxury, economy, and an iconic brand all in one package.

A number of engines are expected to be offered depending on the country you live in. The Jaguar XE will be available with a new small capacity 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine as well as diesel engines called Ingenium. The vehicle is also expected to be offered in the V6 and perhaps the “XE-R” might even feature a V8 (not confirmed). The range will cater to many tastes whether you want something fuel efficient with the four-cylinder vehicles or perhaps something powerful like the V6 offering a top speed of 186mph. Although not confirmed just yet, Hybrid powertrains are also being considered and it is said to differ from the hybrid system being offered in the new Range Rover Hybrid.

The Jaguar XE will also be available in either two-wheel drive for optimum fuel economy or four-wheel drive for additional all-weather grip and stability. More details will be revealed towards the end of the year and a very good chance we’ll be reviewing the vehicle once produced. More details to follow so keep an eye on our Car section of the site for more information.
