Mozilla Firefox 4 – A Leaner, Faster Fox?

The much delayed version of Mozilla’s Firefox browser is now available to everyone as a free download on the official Firefox homepage. Firefox 4 features a brand new interface and a number of improvements to overall browser speed, reliability, memory usage, and perhaps most exciting, html5 standards compatibility. All those fancy features that Apple is better big on are starting to trickle down to the public via browser updates.

Now, I’ve been playing with Firefox 4 for a few hours now, and while the improvements are undoubtedly substantial, I still have major complaints with the interface. In a nutshell, I feel that Mozilla simply hasn’t made the best use of screen real estate, in particular the long strip of wasted space to the right of the “Menu Bar” area. The browser does take up less space than its predecessor, but in my opinion, Google’s Chrome browser still has substantially less screen-clutter than Firefox 4.

For a detailed run-down of all the new features and improvements in Firefox 4, have a look at Mozilla’s Leaner, Meaner Firefox 4 Arrives.
