Mikko Lagerstedt – Conceptual Photography

I’ve recently been spending a lot of time on Google+, Google’s new social networking platform. There are plenty of interesting people on there, and in particular I’ve found a ton of extremely talented photographers. Mikko Lagerstedy of Finland is one of them. Mikko is a self taught photographer and graphic designer, and his portfolio encompasses a wide range of photographic styles and content. All of his work is exceptionally interesting, but my favorite pieces of his all fall under the ‘conceptual’ category. Mikko hasn’t posted a ton of ‘conceptual’ photos, but the ones he has put up all share a quality that’s very dear to me – deep, dramatic lighting. Below are a few of my favorite shots:

For those of you that have played Battlefield 3, perhaps you’ll agree that this looks a lot like the loading screens in the game. Perhaps Dice is keeping a close eye on the online photography community?

I love shots done using an extended exposure, and this one is no exception. I like how absolutely frigid the scene looks, even with the warm lines of whatever Mikko used to produce the orange light beams. The cool mist trailing off the pavement makes me glad that I’m viewing this as a picture instead of freezing my ass off wherever this was shot.

I’ve saved my favourite photo for last. This piece, titled Fire In The Air, features an amazing fiery red sunset over what looks like a farmhouse. I’m a sucker for sunset shots, especially if they’re this beautiful. The dramatic lighting I enjoy so much is in full force here.

Now, this is only a fraction of what Mikko Lagerstedt has in his portfolio. Mikko photographs everything from nature scenes to up-close detail shots of objects he finds interesting. You can find his full portfolio on www.mikkolagerstedt.com , or you can follow him on Google+.
