Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe

To say the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is revolutionary would be an understatement.  The S-Class is probably the most advanced car in the world, in terms of technology and it’s no econo-box either when it comes to luxury.  The technology available in the S-Class has always been state of the art, and the latest generation car takes it to the next level.  In terms of luxury, the interior of the S-Class rivals that of Bentley and Rolls Royce cars.

But what if you want all that luxury and technology, but you want it in a bit of a smaller package, maybe with 2-doors with more of a GT feel?  Mercedes has the car for you, in the new S-Class Coupe, which is the replacement for the CL-Class.  Mercedes is consolidating their models, while BMW is doing the opposite.

The S-Class Coupe is based on the sedan, so most of the parts, the interior, and technology is shared.  The coupe does have a different front and of course, it’s a coupe, so it does have two less doors.  I really like the overall design of this car; it’s long, low, and wide.  The Coupe is 198” long with a 116” wheelbase, its 75” wide and 55.5” tall.  Like the sedan, the coupe exclusively uses LED lights throughout the car, and even comes with an option of Swarovski crystal headlights.

Initially, the S-Class Coupe will be offered as an S550 4MATIC model; powered by a twin-turbo 4.7 liter V8 engine producing 449 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.  Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission.  In typical Mercedes fashion, other models will be available at a later date, including AMG version(s).

There is way too much new technology available on the S-Class cars to list here, but one of the cool features of the new S-Class coupe is the “active curve tilting function”.  This feature is exactly what it sounds like; the S-Class coupe uses its two front cameras to scan the road, 49 feet ahead, looking for corners.  When it detects an upcoming corner, the car tilts 2.5 degrees in the corner’s direction, like a rider does on a motorcycle, to reduce the lateral acceleration on the vehicle and its passengers.  Pretty cool feature in my opinion.

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe will make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March and will go on sale in the fall.  No word on pricing yet.  Via: MB
