Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Sedan

The latest generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class is one of my favorite small, entry-level cars and I like it even more in AMG trim.  We’ve written quite a few posts on the C63 AMG (click link to see them all) over the last couple of years, however, all the posts have been on different variations of the C63 AMG (C63 Coupe, Black Series, etc.), none on the C63 AMG Sedan.

The current generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W204) was introduced in 2007 and was a huge step forward in terms of design over the car it replaced.  I liked the new design the moment I saw it, it has more straight lines and design features that make it look more like its bigger brother, the S-Class.  The C63 AMG takes the design even further with an aggressive look in the front and back, bigger wheels, lower suspension, and sporty side-skirts.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

At the heart of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is a naturally aspirated 6.2 liter V8 engine that produces 457 horsepower (336 kW) and 443 pound-feet (600 Nm) of torque.  If that’s not enough power for you, you can always opt for the AMG Performance Package Plus which ups the horsepower to 487 (358 kW).  All those ponies are sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT automatic transmission which helps launch the C63 AMG to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds while the 487 hp version does the 60 mph sprint in 4.3 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

To put all this power to the road, the C63 comes with a beefy suspension that’s not only sporty but also comfortable; this is a Mercedes sedan after all.  The car is equipped with Electronic Stability Control to keep it on the road, the ESP comes with three settings: On, Off, and Sport Handling Mode.  There is an optional AMG Performance suspension offered that has harder spring and damper settings, perfect for those that prefer “sport” over “comfort”.

The interior is quite simple and sporty with a user-friendly layout.  The car comes with a three-spoke thick leather covered steering wheel with aluminum paddle shifters, behind the wheel, there are three gauges with easy to read large numbers.  The interior consists of various brushed aluminum trim pieces and sports seats covered in black leather that can be ordered in two-tone.

The 2012 Mercedes AMG C63 Sedan has a starting price of £56,575 in the UK.
