McLaren Special Operations 650S Coupe Concept

The McLaren 650S has been with us for a few short months only and it’s already getting different versions. Technically the car has been around for a few years, it is basically a somewhat refreshed MP4-12C but McLaren decided to give it a different name.

The new car is created by McLaren Special Operations and is called the 650S Coupe Concept. The McLaren Special Operations, or MSO, is a new division of the British carmaker that creates “individualized” cars, and the 650S concept is the first of their work.

I must admit, I wasn’t a big fan of the 650S when I first saw it, but for some reason I like the MSO 650S coupe concept. There aren’t that many differences between the two cars, so maybe it’s the paint on this car that makes it look attractive to me?

The paint is very eye-catching, it’s called “Agrigan Black”, and is a black paint with deep ruby metallic flakes; I like the look of it. MSO has added carbon fiber front splitter, side blades, and a diffuser at the back to differentiate it from the regular 650S. The engine bay also sees liberal use of the lightweight material and the car sits on new gloss black 5-spoke wheels with Pirelli tires.

The interior also benefits from carbon fiber bits and pieces, including carbon fiber racing seats inspired by the P1’s seats, which save about 33 pounds of weight.

The MSO 650S Coupe Concept is a one-off design study that will be touring China in the coming days. McLaren says it’ll build the car if there is enough interest; for now, the carbon fiber diffuser and side blades are available for £5,114 ($8,600 US) and £7,245 ($12,200) on the current 650S and MP4-12C.
