McLaren 570GT: A More Luxurious Baby-Mac

We live in a world full of supercars bragging about the fastest lap times, most horsepower, tons of grip, and so on… Then came a car that was more about having fun than flat-out lap times. Said car was the McLaren 570, which was introduced not too long ago, a car that was meant to slide it’s tail-end and give the driver thrills rather than crazy fast lap times (don’t get me wrong, it’s still a very fast car).

The McLaren 570 sports car had an S and a C variant, now the British automaker has introduced the 570GT, a new version of the car that provides more comfort and Grand Touring feel for every day use. The 570GT even comes with a hatchback, with a side opening hatch for curb-side loading.

Changes to the 570 include more storage room in the back, a panoramic glass roof, wider opening doors, quieter Pirelli P-Zero tires, and a softer suspension for long distance driving. The car also comes with fully leather covered interior, heated seats with power adjustment and memory, front and rear parking sensors, and soft-closing doors. All these added luxury features do add weight to the 570, the 570GT tips the scale at 2,976 pounds versus 2,894 for the 570S.

The engine on the 570GT is the same as the one offered on the S, a twin-turbo 3.8 liter V8, producing 562 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The 570GT is a bit slower because of the above mentioned added weight, but not by much. The 570GT sprints to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, 0.2 seconds slower than the 570S, does the 0 – 124 mph sprint in 9.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds slower than the S. Top speed remains the same, at 204 mph.

The McLaren 570GT will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show, orders will be accepted in July with delivery later in the year. The 570GT will have a starting price of $198,950 in the United States, a premium of $14,050 over the 570S.
