Finally, after years of silence we get to see some real, actual, in-game footage from Max Payne 3. The long-awaited sequel is not being developed by the original Finish developer, Remedy Entertainment, but instead by Rockstar Games. You may have heard of them. Now, despite my excitement over a much-needed Max Payne sequel, I’m still reluctant to throw my chips in given the substantial shift in tone and art style from the previous two titles. The music is similar, but Max is, well… fat. He’s also in an environment that’s very different from the first two games, and while I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing, I can see that being a challenge when it comes to re-creating the distinct noir style I know and love.
Max Payne 3 Reveal Trailer
Max Payne 3 certainly looks interesting, but will it manage to hold keep what made the original games so great? I really hope so. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a perfect example of a franchise taken over by another company that managed to keep everything that made the original great, while injecting its own unique flavor and qualities.
Max Payne 3 is currently scheduled for release in March 2012.
I really dig the voiceover and trailer music…but I wonder how the rest of it is going to hold up.
I agree, both sound great, but I really hope Rockstar doesn’t fuck this up. The last two games were fantastic, and I think it would be a real shame to ruin a perfectly great franchise.
