Make Your Outdoor Area Ready for The End of Summer

One of the great things about summer is the chance to get outside and enjoy the weather. In many places the moment the weather gets warmer, the barbecue grills come out. Garden parties and sunbathing mean that your garden is more than a repository for weeds and abandoned trampolines. And then as soon as it has come, it’s gone. There’s something sad about the last embers of summer.

With that said, it doesn’t have to be an end to using your outdoor space. As long as you dress appropriately, gardening can be a year-round thing. Firework parties on Hallowe’en and other occasions can keep you coming back out. If the weather is just cold, not wet, you can even sit outside with a mug of hot chocolate taking the place of the cold, fizzy options. And if you set it up right, your outdoor area can really thrive.

Everywhere Looks Amazing In Autumn

There is a strong section of society that agrees Autumn is actually the finest season. Summer tends to bathe everything in sun to the point where you’re squinting for half the day. It’s easy to feel like you can’t stay out for long, given the risks of prolonged exposure to the sun. In Autumn, though, the leaves change and the temperature gets more comfortable. You don’t need to nest indoors, although that is nice too.

You Won’t Catch Your Death Outdoors

OK, so maybe you won’t want to put on shorts and a vest and sprawl on a sun lounger. Some might argue that with a few deck additions, your outdoor space actually becomes a better place to spend time. A heater or chimenea will mean it’s not too cold. An umbrella means that even if it drizzles a bit, you don’t need to go back in. And anyway, it rains in summer too. Also, a few sports seasons start up. Bring out a laptop or a radio and take in a game or two outdoors.

It’s Bonfire Season

With Autumn comes the shedding of leaves and branches and the need to switch your garden to the hardier perennials. This inevitably leaves some detritus behind, which you COULD bag up and take to the dump. But you also could pile it high in a fire pit and have a bonfire.

Sit or stand around with some long skewers and marshmallows and toast them to perfection. Yes, you’ll be a bit of a cliche, but you absolutely will not care.

Don’t look on the approach of Autumn as being the end of anything – it’s the start of a season that has so much going for it. As well as giving your outdoor space another dimension, it’s a great time to take long drives and get ready for long evenings.

If you’re fortunate enough to live somewhere with temperate winters, this overhaul will last you right through to spring. A Christmas barbecue might be ambitious – but it might not be. Some days you will want to sit inside and be glad you’re not out in that weather, of course. But making your outdoor space Autumn-ready gives you the option.
